When circuit breakers fail to operate properly, repairs can be expensive and time consuming. Our circuit breaker testing services in tandem with our infrared inspections ensure that your system is protected as it was designed. Failure to keep up with routine maintenance decreases the reliability of circuit breakers, and may leave to costly malfunctions.
We're here to make sure that your breakers properly protect your electrical equipment! Contact us today for a free quote on your project.
It is necessary to periodically test your low voltage circuit breakers for proper response under overload and fault current conditions. Primary injection testing is the only means of providing an accurate test of over current devices and current transformers. This verifies their settings and ensures that the electrical distribution system is properly protected. A complete system test is performed on all circuit breakers with static trip devices.
Secondary current injection tests are performed using specially designed power supply units and test sets. Each equipment manufacturer has their own specific test set and power supply. Secondary injection testing only tests the solid-state trip unit, the test allows checking of the trip unit without using primary current. Secondary current testing is normally done when the circuit breaker is closed but is not carrying any current. If the secondary current injection testing show that the solid-state trip unit is not functioning properly, the trip unit should be replaced. Andy Ramos Electric LLC has a full range of secondary current injection test sets from manufacturers like Eaton/Cutler Hammer, Square D, Siemens, ABB, General Electric (G.E.), and more.
The insulation resistance test is a DC evaluation test of the insulation and gives a reliable indication of the presence of moisture, contamination or breakdown in the insulation. This test also establishes a benchmark for future comparative tests.
If contacts are not maintained on a regular basis, resistance builds up due to repeated arcing, which in turn reduces the contacts’ ability to carry current. This test indicates the quality of mating of the contact surfaces and pivot points. Contact resistance should be maintained as low as possible to reduce localized heating and power losses.
